Child democracy in Greenlandic residential areas
The pilot project examines how to involve children and give them a say in Greenland's residential areas through child democracy.
The goal is to help increase the well-being, participation and democratic competencies of children in the Greenlandic residential areas. Through the holding of a large number of child involvement activities, children are given an influence on their own lives where they live. At the same time, child democracy can contribute to the general ongoing development of democracy in Greenland and to compliance with both the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the World Goals.
Child democracy has won several awards in Denmark and it is now being tested how child democracy can be adapted to a Greenlandic context. The Children's Democracy has been started up and is being tested in a larger residential area in Sisimiut, and there is already great support from both the residential area's children and the local community. The long-term ambition is to spread children's democracy through a major nationwide project across Greenland.
