Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Through policies, legislation and information technology, gender equality must be enforced and promoted so that violence, exploitation and sexual harassment in the home and public space are minimized. Work in the home must be recognized and women in leadership positions and in politics must be increased. Likewise, forced marriages must be abolished and everyone must be given equal access to sexual and reproductive health and family planning.

Respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms is one of the cornerstones of Greenlandic democracy. However, violence and abuse against women and children is still a challenge with enormous human and socio-economic consequences that need to be adressed.

Gender equality is crucial to our society, and there is a need for a human vision that views everyone as equally worthy. In this country, the issue and debate on gender equality is as relevant as anywhere else. Neither women nor men should be oppressed because of their gender, but instead equal opportunities and access to health, services, education, jobs, etc. are offered.

Gender bias is undermining our social fabric and devalues all of us. It is not just a human rights issue; it is a tremendous waste of the world’s human potential. By denying women equal rights, we deny half the population a chance to live life at its fullest. Political, economic and social equality for women will benefit all the world’s citizens. Together we can eradicate prejudice and work for equal rights and respect for all.

Statistics

Here are a few indicators for this goal that it is possible to measure today. In the near future, Statistics Greenland will publish an SDG 2030 subpage for stat.gl with various available statistics relevant to the work on the SDG 2030 agenda.
