Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

Goal 9 is about establishing, as far as possible, reliable, sustainable and robust infrastructure that can ensure the framework for inclusive and sustainable industrialization. Small and medium-sized enterprises must have access to financial services, so that entrepreneurship and innovation have the best conditions, and everyone must have access to information and communication technology.

For The Government of Greenland it is important to work for an infrastructure that can promote general growth in society, and thus contribute to a multi-faceted business structure that provides space for innovative ideas and new business opportunities.

It is important in this country, as well as worldwide, to ensure sustainable infrastructure and industry. This means that the current and future plants and industries must be designed more efficiently and energy-efficiently. Unfortunately, the Greenlandic infrastructure is largely defined by historical decisions, and to a lesser extent by the challenges of the present and the future.

The Government of Greenland has therefore prioritized the establishment of new airports, which will make the infrastructure more cohesive and supports future development potentials. A better and cheaper infrastructure can help increase productivity and competitiveness. In addition, in some cases it can also help pave the way for new business opportunities, especially in the field of tourism and the raw materials area.

In recent years, with the establishment of new submarine cables, there has been a significant improvement in the telecommunications infrastructure in Greenland. The Global Goals aim to offer affordable internet access by 2030. Over 99% of the population in Greenland live in housing with access to telecommunications (mobile telephony and internet), of which 92% have access to high-speed internet. 88% of the population has access to the Internet at home, while a further 4% of the population has access to the Internet elsewhere.

A functioning and resilient infrastructure is the foundation of every successful community. To meet future challenges, our industries and infrastructure must be upgraded. For this, we need to promote innovative sustainable technologies and ensure equal and universal access to information and financial markets. This will bring prosperity, create jobs and make sure that we build stable and prosperous societies across the globe.

Statistics

Here are a few indicators for this goal that it is possible to measure today. In the near future, Statistics Greenland will publish an SDG 2030 subpage for stat.gl with various available statistics relevant to the work on the SDG 2030 agenda.
